Free radical damage and an uncontrolled immune system cause inflammation; inflammation is the root of all chronic conditions. Behind inflammation is stress, and stress may be one or a combination of the following:

  • Toxic overload of heavy metals, herbicides, pesticides and synthetic hormones as found in the standard American commercial diet
  • Sugar excess
  • Chronic anxiety and depression
  • Metabolic deficiencies of liver, colon and kidney function
  • Environmental toxins
  • Tap water
  • Use of plastic containers

Dr. Dunn can help assess the different stressors that cause inflammation due to lifestyle and metabolic imbalances leading to chronic sinusitis, earaches, herpes, arthritis and other immune disorders. He knows which tests to run and how to implement an integrated natural treatment plan to correct the underlying cause of chronic disease. Two common immune system issues are chronic fatigue immunodeficiency syndrome (CFIDS) and fibromyalgia. Addressing these and other immuno-deficiency concerns is a specialty area of Dr. Dunn’s.  Making the diagnosis and putting together an integrated natural treatment plan for chronic fatigue and or fibromyalgia has been a part of Dr. Dunn’s practice for over 20 years.

Treating chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia requires extensive clinical experience which Dr. Dunn has, and the knowledge of appropriate testing to get results. Adrenal cortisol, DHEA, testosterone, antioxidant status, liver function and heavy metal evaluation are a few of the tests commonly used to address this condition.

De-tox and recovery programs are also offered at this clinic for those with multiple chemical sensitivities, hepatitis and long term drug concerns including nicotine and alcohol, although we do not offer in-house care.

As a member of the Oncology Association of Naturopath Physicians Dr. Dunn applies the art and science of naturopathic medicine to the field of cancer care in the form of cancer co-management. His goal is to bring wisdom, perspective and experience to the oncology treatment team to ensure the best positive outcomes for his patients. Dr. Dunn’s intention is to enhance survival and quality of life for people living with cancer through the integration of naturopathic oncology into cancer care.

People with cancer often get excited about what they have read about intravenous vitamin C, Iscador (mistletoe), green tea, resveratrol, fish oil or curcumin. They read websites promoting a wide range of diets that range from Dr. Budwig’s cottage cheese flax oil regime to lists of alkaline and acid foods. Their friends and family, hearing they have cancer, offer to sell them the latest multi-level-marketed products such as mangosteen juice, or graviola, believing these have anticancer properties and promising miracle cures. Dr. Dunn can guide his patients through this confusing marketplace.

Dr. Dunn understands the science that explains why some supplements make chemotherapy, radiation and other medical treatments more cytotoxic, killing cancer cells more effectively, and which supplements may prevent treatments from working. His many years of experience ensure that his patients get the best possible treatments and results using integrated naturopathic medicine.
